Newly
appointed Indonesian National Air Carriers Association (INACA) chief Arif
Wibowo says the association under his leadership has vowed to improve the
country’s levels of aviation security and safety as part of the preparations
for the ASEAN Open Sky Policy in 2015.
“We
will join forces with the government to tackle these two issues,” Arif said on Saturday.
Arif,
who is currently PT Citilink Indonesia’s CEO, has replaced Indonesia’s flag
carrier airline Garuda Indonesia’s president director Emirsyah Satar as INACA
chief for the 2013-2016 tenure.
According
to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Indonesia is still in the
Catch 2 category for security and safety while several other Asian countries
such as Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam have secured the higher Catch
1 category.
To
date, only Garuda Indonesia has secured the IATA Operational Safety Audit
(IOSA) out of 12 airlines that operate in the country. As for airports, according
to Bayu Sutanto of INACA, there are only five airports that have been declared
international airports by the government and have met the requirements for the
upcoming open sky policy.
The
airports are Kuala Namu in North Sumatra, Soekarno-Hatta in Jakarta, Djuanda in
Surabaya, Ngurah Rai in Bali and Sultan Hasanuddin in Makassar.(dic)
